Wisdom teeth

A wisdom tooth or third molar is one of the three molars per quadrant of the human dentition. It is the most posterior of the three. Wisdom teeth generally erupt between the ages of 17 and 25. Most adults have four wisdom teeth, one in each of the four quadrants, but it is possible to have fewer or more, in which case the extras are called supernumerary teeth. Wisdom teeth commonly affect other teeth as they develop, becoming impacted. They are often extracted when or even before this occurs.

Dental implantology

A dental implant (also known as an endosseous implant or fixture) is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration, in which materials such as titanium form an intimate bond to bone. The implant fixture is first placed so that it is likely to osseointegrate, then a dental prosthetic is added.

Facial Trauma

Facial trauma, also called maxillofacial trauma, is any physical trauma to the face. Facial trauma can involve soft tissue injuries such as burns, lacerations and bruises, or fractures of the facial bones such as nasal fractures and fractures of the jaw, as well as trauma such as eye injuries. Symptoms are specific to the type of injury; for example, fractures may involve pain, swelling, loss of function, or changes in the shape of facial structures.

Head and neck cancer

Head and neck cancer is a group of cancers that starts within the mouth, nose, throat, larynx, sinuses, or salivary glands. Symptoms may include a lump or sore that does not heal, a sore throat that does not go away, trouble swallowing, or a change in the voice.[1] There may also be unusual bleeding, facial swelling, or trouble breathing.About 75% of head and neck cancer is due to the use of alcohol or tobacco.

Craniofacial anomalies (CFA) are a diverse group of deformities in the growth of the head and facial bones. Anomaly is a medical term meaning “irregularity” or “different from normal.” These abnormalities are congenital (present at birth) and there are numerous variations. Some are mild and some are severe and need surgery.

TMJ and Atypical Facial Pains

Atypical facial pain (AFP) is a type of chronic facial pain which does not fulfill any other diagnosis.There is no consensus as to a globally accepted definition, and there is even controversy as to whether the term should be continued to be used. Both the International Headache Society (IHS) and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) have adopted the term persistent idiopathic facial pain (PIFP) to replace AFP.

Dento-facial and neck infections

The incidence, severity, morbidity, and mortality of odontogenic infections have declined dramatically over the years. This reduction in mortality was not due to the first use of penicillin in the treatment of these infections. Rather, it was due to application of the principles of the initial establishment of airway security, followed by early and aggressive surgical drainage of all anatomical spaces affected by cellulitis or abscesses.
